Handle replacement

It happens that the old pen is loose or a crack has formed in it. Sometimes the handle is intact, but you want to install a handle-lock or opening limiter to protect the child. Repair is quite simple, and it is not necessary to call a specialist. Just buy a new pen at a hardware store and replace it:

  1. Rotate the decorative plate located at the base of the handle at right angles to the original position.
  2. You see two screws, with which, in fact, it is fixed. Unscrew them with a regular screwdriver and remove it.
  3. It remains to install a new handle, and there are already screws for tightening.
  4. In the case of an opening stop, install an adjustment plate in the base before installation.
  5. After the screws are completely tightened, set the decorative plate in its previous position so that it covers the screws.

The window does not close

This happens if the handle is simply jammed in the “open” position, and there is no way to close the sash. The most common cause of a malfunction is the interlock. His appointment is quite noble - to prevent accidentally scrolling the handle if you put the window on ventilation or in the tilt-and-turn position. However, it happens that the operation of the blocker occurs at the most inopportune moment. For example, when quickly moving the pen from one position to another. The way to neutralize the blocker depends on what brand of hardware is used.

The sash must be vertical. If the sash is in the swing-out position, then the lock located on the upper hinge prevents the handle from turning:

  1. Find a metal plate equipped with a spring in the area of the handle.
  2. Press the spring against the seal and turn the handle.

Roto, GU, Winkhaus, Maco:

  1. Locate a metal tongue under the handle located at an angle to the frame.
  2. Press it so that it is parallel to the window sash. Now the handle can be rotated.

Important! If this technique does not work, check: is there a contact between the lock and the reciprocal mechanism on the frame. Sometimes, with thermal expansion, the blocker simply slips:

  • Open a window and look for the response element for which the blocker should cling.
  • Then unscrew the screws and put the plastic gasket between the counter element and the frame.

This little trick helps re-establish the clutch between the mating element and the blocker.

DIY PVC window repair: the handle does not turn well

And sometimes it stops turning at all. The reason for this is the drying of the lubricant in the fittings. The hardware of the plastic window itself is a complex system with a large number of gears. For the latter to function normally, two conditions are necessary:

  • Keeping the window spotlessly clean.
  • The presence of high-quality lubricant.

Important! To avoid incorrect operation of the hardware, use either special grease for plastic windows or a universal penetrating compound. If this does not help, it makes sense to call the wizard.

The sash opened immediately in two modes - hinged and rotary

Not a very pleasant situation, especially since the weight of the sash is quite large:

  1. Place it vertically and set it to rotate in such a way as to press the upper loop.
  2. Now move the handle to the horizontal position, which corresponds to the open sash.
  3. If the interlock works, disconnect it as described above.
  4. Now close the window by turning the knob to the “vertical down” position.
  5. Test the design again by placing the handle in different positions.
  6. If it works fine, then everything is done correctly.

  • If the draft remains, then the reason is something else. Contact the wizard.

After the warranty period, you can install the plates and do it yourself.

As a straightening plate, you can use any plastic whose width is not less than the thickness of the glass:

  1. Take a metal spatula, place it in the seam between the profile and the glazing bead, then remove the glazing bead.
  2. Using the same glazing bead, move the glass unit to a distance of 3 to 5 mm.
  3. Establish straightening plates and assemble a double-glazed window.

Important! It is impossible that the plastic plate installed by you rests on glass. It may crack.
